I love to teach our students about the different reading genres!  The biggest reason is that it is a proved method to increase reading MOTIVATION.  Because we all have different reading identities, we all have different reading tastes as well.  The genre tree is in our classroom all year to remind us of the different options we have to choose from in our reading.
